DNS round robin or NLB ?

Hello !

For the set-up of my production environnement,

I would like to use DNS round robin for a "very easy" set up of the load balancing instead of using NLB wich rely on multicast networking etc...

Has anyone already set up DNS round robin for Softgrid streaming and do you think it can work to spread the connections requests on the VAS ?

I am currently using round robin because network limitations... and i have used NLB

NLB is better:
- Much faster "refresh"
- If one server is down NLB is able to skip it

We currently have both in our environment because not all sites have hardware load balancers. DNS load balancing is easier but its not as robust. If you do DNS load balancing be sure to set your TTL down low. A hardware NLB (we use the Netscaler) was difficult to figure out but it works great. One thing we found we needed to do was create a loopback adapter on the app-v servers. If you have multiple sites you can also do Geographic DNS failover.

That's good. Finally I could'nt set up NLB because I wasnt able to choose the switch configuration. The network guy plugged the servers on 2 different switch and I'm blind on the configuration, so I have to use a "system" solution only.

So now I'm going to DNS Round Robin. I've also had a thought about the low TTL...

But we allow the App-V apps to start from cache without login so this is not too much critical (I guess). Tested to launch the apps "offline" and it worked not so bad. Should be enough time to reconfigure Round Robin DNS entries in case one server has gone down....

How do I change my dns server from Centos? I have a system with CENTOS and I need to change the primary and secondary dns server addresses (the centos machine is NOT a dns server -- think of it like a workstation). How can I change the dns server address? I didn't see it under /etc/sysconfig/networking.
