A couple of announcements out of TMurgent today of interest to this space.

PimpMy for SoftGrid Help Desks Package has been released. This is the second package from the PimpMy for SoftGrid product line. The HD product is designed for the folks that man help desks in a SoftGrid environment. It gives them a simple GUI to determine what apps the user should have and why things are broken, without giving them the SoftGrid Admin role or even Administrator privleges.

Also PimpMy for SoftGrid Real-Time Monitoring Package has been updated.

Excellent - I had seen the 'PimpMy for SoftGrid' product page when you initially brought it out, but didn't take the time to read its capabilities.

Now that my customer is moving to multiple, but separate SoftGrid implementations (mixed environment using streaming & SMS/SCCM application delivery) from a central management location, both of these products would be helpful. I just forwarded the product description & web link to them for review.

Where do you get your ideas for your product line development? Do you take requests from the field or do your consulting jobs help you identify 'missing' customer needs? Interested to know.

Yes, I do listen to requests from the field.

I actually started this product in 2003. I developed a prototype and showed it to Stuart at Softricity. He explained how part of what I had done would be obsolete in the next release (due to the change from LDAP to using Active Directory), and that he liked the ideas and they would just add them into the product. He was half right. So there are still all these holes that need plugging.

For some, free tools make sense, but others require much more effort and will need maintenance and support; so a pay for model is needed.
