Access Denied 00000729-00000005

Post by Chris.CCT » Tue Aug 23, 2011 10:03 pm

I recently setup my first App-V installation with 1 App-V server doubling as a RDS Session Host (Terminal Server), one other thing to note is that the server also has the App-V 4.6 SP1 client installed. The server seems pretty solid but I am getting some odd stuff happening with the clients... The clients are running Windows Embedded 2009, they are HP Thin Clients. I am able to logon as a particular user and run app-v programs without issue however when I logon as anyone else I get access denied errors:

[08/23/2011 11:43:53:488 TRAY ERR] {tid=BD4:usr=lauren.Fahy}
The Application Virtualization Client could not launch Kid Pix

Access is denied.

Error code: 4615186-00000729-00000005

[08/23/2011 11:45:34:783 SRVC WRN] {tid=234}
Failed unregistering callback tracking connected process termination (error: 997).

[08/23/2011 11:48:09:141 JGSW ERR] {tid=7C4:usr=lauren.Fahy}
The Application Virtualization Client could not connect to stream URL 'RTSP://STTS01.ST-TIMS:554/Kid-PIX_4.sft' (rc 00000729-00000005, original rc 00000729-00000005).

I've opened the permissions wide open to the "Everyone" account and the "Anonymous Logon" just for testing purposes on the directory holding the SFT's. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Not entirely sure, but it could be that the reason is that you are running an embedded version of the Windows. Vendors of the machines with embedded version of Windows can customize in very detailed way what components gets included in the build and more often than not thin client vendors leave out lot of lesser used features to save in image size and boot-up times etc. This means that some critical system functionality that App-V Client relies on may be missing on those HP thin clients.

Not to mention that MS does not officially support running App-V Clients in Embedded Windows, at least to my knowledge.

Just to be sure: Are you attempting to stream those App-V Packages down to the "Embedded" devcice, or does the device connet via RDP/ICA to the RDS server?
Did you install the App-V Management Server and/or App-V Streaming Server on the Server?

(actually, there are better ways to build such a "single box" scenario. If it is for infrastructure testing purposes, you should span the services across several (virtual) machines. If you need a small "productive" deployment, you can deploy App-V packages "stand alone" without App-V server components...)
