Citrix logging off issues + App-V 5.0 + IE

Post by wind23 » Thu Aug 27, 2015 8:06 pm

We are moving to App-V 5.0 SP3 on Citrix 6.5. We previously used App-V 4.6. We are having an issue where some client sessions do not get logged off.

We have added the appropriate entries to the TWI key for App-V 5.0: http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX13 ... 1366630893

Some sessions do fall into the disconnected state, and log off as expected. These are the old App-V 4.6 apps as well as the non-virtualized apps.

However, our first App-V 5.0 app is Java. (Normally we would start with something simpler, but this one needs to be deployed). Within our virtual Java, we have a shortcut to Internet Explorer 11, along with a few other app shortcut.

The shortcut to IE will keep the session logged on. However, if the user just launches the Java console (within the same package), we don't have this problem. We have used Process Monitor, and taskhost.exe seems to start and stop over and over again.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Since SP2, App-V integrates browser helper objects into IE when the app is published globally. There is no point having this in Java as it doesn't work anyway and you still need to force IE into the bubble for it to work. I'm not 100% that this is the cause of your issue, but if it is you have the following workarounds available so try some of these out:

- Sequence Java with SP1. I recommend this in my guide to sequencing Java.
- Publish the app to the user instead of globally (maybe not a good solution for a Citrix environment though)
- Use App-V 5.1 - there is a new checkbox to disable browser helper objects
- Disable the entire feature - but this will also affect other packages so will be an issue if you're into publishing other IE addins like Flash Player via App-V. To do this, remove iexplore.exe from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Virtualization\ProcessesUsingVirtualComponents.

We did it this way is because we have 2 different of Java, and the A version that everyone use will be install locally. The other version B, AppV it and create an IE link for these user that need to use it.

The application is working, but just when user close the application, the user will hang on the server...
